Raymond Lai is a classically trained violinist with a rich musical history from Northern Virginia. Introduced to the violin at a young age through the Suzuki method, Raymond’s passion for music blossomed under the guidance of dedicated teachers and countless hours of practice. By age 10, he was performing with the McLean Youth Orchestra, where he developed his skills and love for orchestral music, continuing through his teenage years.
Raymond's musical journey has been marked by unforgettable opportunities, including performing in multiple engagements with the internationally acclaimed Trans-Siberian Orchestra, blending classical and rock music in electrifying live shows. While at the College of William & Mary, he played with the William & Mary Symphony Orchestra, further refining his technical skill and musicality.
Now residing in Richmond, Virginia, with his wife Caroline, a talented singer and guitarist, Raymond continues to pursue his passion for music. He is a member of both the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra and the innovative VCU Health Orchestra, “Music and Medicine,” which connects healthcare and music to uplift the community.
In addition to his classical background, Raymond’s versatility shines in his ability to perform contemporary pop and other genres. His performances have graced a variety of venues, from elegant wedding ceremonies and alumni events to lively fundraisers and intimate rehearsal dinners. Whether playing solo, in a quartet, or as a violin and guitar duo with Caroline, Raymond takes pride in crafting memorable, tailored musical experiences for every audience.
When he’s not performing, Raymond enjoys arranging new pieces, experimenting with modern repertoire, and mentoring young musicians. His mission is to bring the power of music to every occasion, creating moments that resonate long after the final note.
